Helen was just one member of her family to join our Sea Scout Group.
Her brother's Peter and David were Sea Scouts and her sister Annika was a Beaver Scout
and then a Cub Scout. David Sochon, Helen's father, was our Group treasurer for many
years, her mother Janet, was our Beaver Leader when the Beavers
were first formed.
Helen was the second girl to join the Group when we started to take
girls into the Group, we were the first Group to take girls in
Basingstoke when the rules changed; meaning that she was the second
girl in the whole of Basingstoke to join Scouts, a major milestone.
Her brother Peter is now in the Royal Corps of Signals, his wife is
expecting their first baby.
